Chris Bassitt's Saturday afternoon got off to a rocky start.
In the first inning, the Toronto Blue Jays right-hander faced Aaron Judge, and Judge quickly hit a 101.6 mph liner right down the middle of the field that headed for Bassitt's forearm.
The judge arrived first and immediately looked toward the mound, knowing the potential damage he could do with a single swing of the bat.

Bassitt was immediately checked by manager John Schneider and a trainer and threw a pair of warm-up pitches, the first slightly off.
But he stayed in the game, sporting a huge welt on his arm.

Not only did he get out of a deadlock at first and second, he also gave the Blue Jays a good start.
He held the Yankees scoreless until the fifth inning, when Judge hit an RBI single (at 110.3 mph).

Bassitt pitched six innings in which he allowed just one run and struck out eight batters, so he was clearly not affected. When he left the game, the Jays were up 8-1.
He entered the afternoon with a 3.45 ERA, along with José Berríos. Bassitt has been in the top 10 in Cy Young Award voting in three of the last four seasons.
In his last 11 starts, he has a 2.28 ERA. In his last eight, it is 1.65.
