Bayern Munich have reached an agreement in principle for up to 56 million euros ($60.4 million) with Fulham to sign midfielder Joao Palhinha, sources told ESPN.
The transfer represents a club-record deal for Fulham, comprising €51m upfront plus €5m in add-ons and the 28-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract.
Palhinha is part of Portugal's squad preparing for Friday's Euro 2024 quarter-final against France and the deal is not expected to be finalised until his country's participation in the tournament ends.
The move will end Bayern's year-long pursuit of Palhinha, which saw a deal between the two clubs fall through last summer as Fulham struggled to find a replacement.
Palhinha had been given permission to fly to Germany to undergo a medical but Fulham cancelled the deal, but it now looks like he will finally get the move he craves.
Last weekend, Palhinha said: “As far as my future is concerned, both clubs know where I want to be in a month's time. Right now I'm focused on my work with the national team and making history for my country.”
Palhinha joined Fulham from Sporting CP in 2022 and made 79 appearances for the Cottagers, winning the Player of the Year award in his first season.
