Breaking debuted in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Friday, and one B-girl went absolutely viral on social media for her performance, but not in the way she probably expected.
Australian Rachel Gunn, who competes under the name “RayGun,” instantly became a meme on X after her baffling performance in the round-robin stage of the Women's breaking competition.
Gunn, 36, failed to match the skill level of her opponents and in doing so was swept in all of her battles without ever winning a single point.

“I was never going to beat these girls at what they do best: their power moves,” Gunn said afterward. “What I bring is creativity.”
But it was her “creativity” that left viewers wondering how she was rated.
“I feel a little bad for RayGun, the Australian [breaker] “But that routine was hilariously ridiculous,” one person wrote on X. “Something like that always happens at the Olympics.”
American Olympian who quit his six-figure marketing job to pursue breakdancing was eliminated in a round robin; what's next?
According to her Olympic bio, Gunn is a university lecturer at Macquarie University and holds a PhD in cultural studies. “Dance” is listed as one of her research interests.
Gunn qualified for the Paris Olympics after winning the QMS Oceania Championships in Sydney, Australia, and was named the top-ranked b-girl by the Australian Breaking Association in 2020 and 2021.
Gunn also appeared to receive some criticism online for her style choice.

According to the The New York Post, The International Olympic Committee allowed competitors to wear their own personalised uniform, which had to be handed in before the competition. Gunn was the only athlete to wear a tracksuit representing her country.
“I hope the same level of scrutiny is applied to what the boys wear tomorrow,” she responded on Instagram on Friday.
The men's competition began on Saturday.
