Angel Reese and Sky make it clear who they think is the favorite for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award


Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky made it clear who they think is the favorite for the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award after the rookie recorded another double-double.

Reese scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and extended her record for consecutive double-doubles in a single season as a WNBA rookie to 12. She also tied Candace Parker's record for most consecutive double-doubles over the course of two seasons.

The Sky defeated the Seattle Storm, 88-84.

But in the midst of a very tight race for this season's Most Important Rookie award, Sky wrote a post on X making it clear who they have as their choice.

“A record-setter. The favorite,” the team wrote.

Reese also reposted the message on her wall.

Reese's teammate Chennedy Carter also placed the rookie forward in first place for the award.

“Barbie is the Rookie of the Year. There's no other way to put it,” Carter said, via the New York Post. “She goes out, she does her job every night, no matter what team we're playing. I'm telling you, Barbie is the Rookie of the Year, hands down.”

Reese's main competition for the award is Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, who also made history Saturday by becoming the first rookie to record a triple-double.

Clark is averaging 16 points, 7.1 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. Reese is averaging 13.9 points, 11.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

Clark has the advantage in the head-to-head matchup, having won two of their three meetings so far. The two have one more matchup on the calendar: August 30.
