Analysis of the Bayern 5-0 Bremen match (September 21, 2024)

Bayern Munich extended their perfect start to the Bundesliga season as Michael Olise scored two goals and assisted two others to give them a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen in a one-sided encounter at the Weserstadion on Saturday.

Bayern, who suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Bremen the last time the sides met in a league clash in January, claimed a comfortable victory to move up to 12 points from four games.

Winger Olise, signed in July from Premier League side Crystal Palace for an estimated 60 million euros ($67 million), has quickly established himself in the first team. He has once again repaid the trust of coach Vincent Kompany as he has been heavily involved in Bayern's attack.

Bayern, who have scored 20 goals in three games in all competitions, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Harry Kane took possession on the edge of the area and passed the ball to Olise, who fired past goalkeeper Michael Zetterer.

In the 32nd minute, the French winger made his way into the Bremen box and his pass was deflected by Jamal Musiala.

Bayern continued their attack after the break and Olise set up Kane to fire home from the edge of the box, marking the striker's 41st Bundesliga goal, making him the highest-scoring English player in the history of the German top flight.

Olise scored his fifth goal in three games with a delightful side-footed finish into the top corner and substitute Serge Gnabry completed the scoring in the 65th minute.

Bayern were without veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was named in the starting line-up but withdrew after the warm-up due to a thigh injury, but the change made little difference.

Substitute Sven Ulreich played without problems throughout the match and did not concede a single shot on target from Bremen's weak attack.

Bayern eased off the gas in the final 15 minutes of the game, probably saving energy for a difficult clash with champions Bayer Leverkusen on September 28.
