American swimmers Katie Grimes and Emma Weyant won silver and bronze medals in the 400-meter individual medley final at the Paris Olympics on Monday night.
Canadian swimming star Summer McIntosh swept aside the field to claim her first career gold medal in the event, finishing in 4:27.71.

Grimes clocked 4:33.40 and Weyant 4:34.93.
For Grimes, it was her first Olympic medal. She competed on the U.S. Olympic team for the first time at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the age of 15. She finished fourth in the 800-meter freestyle and was hailed by teammate Katie Ledecky as the future of the sport.
Weyant won a silver medal in the event last year, finishing behind Japan's Yu Ohashi and ahead of teammate Hali Flickinger.

Two more U.S. medals were added to their total for the day as figure skaters Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston and the men's gymnastics team each medaled in their respective events.
The U.S. women's swimming team had been the favorite to win several medals throughout the Paris Games.
Ledecky, Torri Huske, Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh and Simone Manuel are among the swimmers who have won medals during the Olympic Games in the women's category of the pool.

Huske was the only female swimmer to win gold at this point in the competition.
