2026 March Madness Field predictions for men

Standards

ESPN support efforts focus on projecting the NCAA tournament field as well as we hope the Basketball Committee of Division I of the NCAA select the field in March. The ESPN Joe Lunardi support uses the same data points favored by the Committee, including the strength of the schedule and other indicators of the season, including the net and leaf of equipment similar to what is available for the NCAA, in its field projections. Visit the NCAA website for a more complete understanding of the NCAA selection criteria.

68 team support

The support of 68 teams is the standard version of the NCAA tournament field that has been in force since 2011. However, if the 2021 field is composed of 68 teams, there will be some key differences for the past years.

The main normal year adjustment is, of course, the game of the entire NCAA tournament in one place. This eliminates the need for geographical considerations in planting. In addition, there will be at least an automatic qualifier less this season, since the Ivy League's decision to give up the 2020-21 season reduces the number of aq in 31 for this season.

48 team support

In this projection, a condensed selection process would reduce the field in 10 equipment in general and 10 automatic qualifiers (the last of which still receives a income unit). The first four seeds in each region would receive goodbye in the second round, with four first round games by region: 5 vs. 12, 6 vs. 11, 7 vs. 10 and 8 vs. 9, playing without fans on the local field of the highest seed.

To minimize trips, first round matches will be guided by geography to the greatest possible extent. And the reduced field results in only 32 teams that compete on the central site. All participants must publish a minimal conference record of .500, the “Lunardi rule”, for general consideration.

16 team support

In this projection, the committee selects and sows the 16 best available equipment. There are no automatic qualifiers, although all non -competitive conference champions receive the designated income unit.

To maintain some sense of national balance, participation in the conference is limited in four teams. And no region will have more than one team from the same conference.
