We will lose many coastal treasures such as the Wayfarers Chapel.

To the editor: You quoted the Rev. Dave Brown of Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes as saying, “We don't know how long the landslide and movement will continue.”

Uh-oh, I think I know! This will likely continue to happen as long as climate change continues to accelerate coastal erosion everywhere.

Scientists have been warning us for decades, listing a list of catastrophic events that await our species if we don't take even the most obvious steps: plant more trees, save the trees we have, or stop emitting greenhouse gases whenever we can. may be possible. .

Most of us haven't done these things. We complain to each other that something needs to be done, apparently by someone else, because many of those affected continue to buy and burn gasoline.

Now we are suddenly horrified when coastal erosion and landslides are actually occurring. Yes, I am heartbroken at the possible loss of this beautiful monument. I've been to Wayfarers Chapel, it's awesome.

But within a year or two, stories like this will no longer be news, as journalists and citizens alike will become desensitized to the countless properties and monuments falling into the sea in places like Rancho Palos Verdes, Santa Barbara, Oceanside, Pacific Palisades, Monterey and much more.
