UC leaders should treat anti -Semitism in the campus more seriously

To the editor: The Los Angeles Times (“The Jewish community of UCLA joins the demand of $ 1 billion Trump: 'wrong and punitive'”, “ August 1) could not completely face the statements of the Faculty of UCLA that minimized anti -Semitism. In fact, the Jewish Faculty Resilience (that Sayo) and the Working group on anti-Semitism and Anti-Israeli bias In UCLA he has documented repeated and violent attacks against students and Faculty Jews by pro-Palestinian protesters before, during and after the 2024 camp. Minimize this reality retraumatizes the Jews in the campus that have already suffered hostile conditions.

In the last 18 months, JFRG has provided the leaders of the CU UC evidence and a road map to address anti -Semitism. The real question is whether the leaders, the faculty and the media of the university have studied this evidence with the seriousness that it deserves, or if it passed it, choosing the comfort of the distance on the responsibility of the action.

To the editor: I can't agree more with the writers of this piece (“Trump's statement to combat anti -Semitism in UCLA is a dangerous farce.” August 19). I would simply like to emphasize and paraphrase a couple of its concepts: President Trump wants $ 1 billion of UCLA and if UCLA does not find a solution other than the agreement, there would be devastating losses for research, works, etc. A really a Faustian bargain with strong traces of a mafia style Shakedown. And Trump says he is doing this to combat anti -Semitism. This scandalous scheme would be difficult to believe if it didn't happen before our eyes.

To the editor: I do not believe for a minute that Trump chases UCLA for the benefit of the Jews and to combat anti -Semitism. He could not matter less to us and he is using us to promote his cause, whatever. They are putting the Jewish people in the center of attention for all the wrong reasons, and in fact, it is causing more anti -Semitism. Please, Trump, go and leave us alone.

To the editor: The absurd of the fine of $ 1 billion proposed by anti -Semitism in UCLA was demonstrated by the two opinion articles on a page of The Times (“Blacks on campus support the fight against anti -Semitism and also wonder, 'What about us?'”, “ August 19).

Trump's fine reminded me of Isaac Asimov's warning that “when stupidity is considered patriotism, it is not safe to be intelligent.”

Trump's continuous attacks against our universities, knowledge and facts are extraordinary dangers for our democracy.
