Things are not good here. Newsom's State of the State report was delusional

To the editor: In his State of the State address, Gov. Gavin Newsom ridiculed “California’s delusional haters.” It is Newsom's behavior that is deeply delusional.

California has one of the highest unemployment rates and gas prices in the country. The Legislature and the governor had to cut the state budget to close a $46.8 billion deficit. We can't count the billions of dollars spent on homeless people. Businesses and residents are leaving the state.

Despite all this, Newsom has the temerity to claim that “people around the world look at California and see what is possible.” Beyond that, instead of staying in California to address the crises facing the state, he travels freely around the country criticizing red states for how they are governed.

This governor is immune to reason.

To the editor: Newsom's attack on critics of California and, in particular, red states and their political leaders is rich, to say the least. A comparison of their goals, economies and their growth provides a fun answer to who is really fooled.

And U-Haul rental rates in and out of California provide plenty of empirical evidence.
