To the editor: For those of us who, like op-ed writer Darren Rosenblum’s mother, wonder how many “they” are and are confused by the jarring “they are,” how about a new word to clarify? (“Take it from a nonbinary professor: Don't make students declare their pronouns on Day One,” Opinion, Sept. 4).
I suggest “shay,” a word that combines “she,” “he,” and “they,” for an individual nonbinary person.
Usage: “Shay is coming to lunch. Put an extra plate out.”
It's very simple. No need for confusion or embarrassment. A round of applause for Shay!

To the editor: Please just call me by my name. There is no reason to use a pronoun. Every person is an individual and deserves the respect of being called by their name.
