The Ten Commandments are an advertisement against Trump

To the editor: I want to sincerely thank the state of Louisiana for passing a law requiring most schools to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms. The public has spoken out and its leaders have responded.

The deep sense of decency and ethical code contained in the commandments is the basis for truth, beauty and goodness to be expressed in all of our lives.

Additionally, I want to thank Louisiana for ensuring that President Biden will surely win by the largest electoral margin in the state's history in 2024.

No parent will be able to look their children in the eye and admit that they voted for former President Trump, who has proven that his life is based on acting in opposition to these laws.

No parent who believes in the code of conduct expressed in the Ten Commandments can excuse the former president's disregard for these laws. Casting a vote for Trump is voting for the exact opposite of the meaning of the Ten Commandments.

No parent wants to show their child that level of hypocrisy.

To the editor: Hallelujah! A new Louisiana law requiring publication of the biblical Ten Commandments considers them among the “fundamental documents of our state and national government.”

Please tell me (so to speak), could the Constitution of the United States be among those founding documents? If so, how about we also publish his unequivocal mandate, in Article VI, against the imposition of any “religious test” for holding public office?

Oops, I almost forgot: The devil might care about that federal mandate, at least not when seven state constitutions explicitly prohibit atheists from holding public office.

To save the political soul of our nation, we need a resurgence of critical thinking in legislatures and the courts. Legal dissonance alone will not be enough to thwart religious conservatives' diabolical push to transform our secular democracy into a Christian theocracy.

To the editor: When Louisiana decided to post the Ten Commandments in classrooms, was that their way of promoting Trump's accomplishments?
