To the editor: The article about noise and heat in Los Angeles does not even mention the problem of plane noise in the western valley of San Fernando (“A tour of the infernal landscape of sound and heat that is angels”, September 9). Lax mentions, but we also listen to the incessant extreme noise caused by the flight routes of the airlines to and from the airports here, in addition to low -flight police helicopters. An important airline flight route seems to enter West Valley on the hills in the middle of highways 101 and 118, and creates an extreme noise almost continuously. Can something be done, as perhaps to require a slightly higher flight (like a few) until the sound of increase caused by the hills has passed?
To help with heat, the city must prioritize and immediately plant trees on parks, including numerous older areas where trees have died. In my 60 -year -old street, seven blocks, there are only about eight trees that still live. It is very necessary are shadow trees that are tolerant of drought.
These solutions could greatly help reduce the impact of these insidious health threats.
