To the editor: The new leaders of the Food and Medicines Administration of the United States and the Department of Health and Human Services say that COVID-19 vaccines will require additional evidence before being approved for low-risk people under 65 years (“Kennedy says that Covid Vaccines is no longer recommended for healthy children and pregnant women.” May 27). That means that your pharmacy cannot afford to give you the vaccine, even if you wish, even if you are a caregiver of a person with disabilities or old woman or a newborn who should not be exposed to the virus.
It is a basic principle of public health that a disease that kills millions of people must receive a medical sign of “not transfer”. The immunity of the flock, produced when the flock members have antibodies that provide resistance to a disease, is one thing that limits the spread of the disease. This immunity can come from the recovery of infection or vaccination. If you want to get antibodies safely, vaccination is the way.
