Taking “letting the states decide abortion” to its logical conclusion

To the editor: Imagine the trend continues after the U.S. Supreme Court left abortion policy up to the states (“November Election Could Make — or Break — Reproductive Freedom,” editorial, Aug. 26)

Governors will conclude that states are too large and diverse to decide the question, so it should fall to each county.

The county manager says they have no authority over abortion rights, so they pass the responsibility on to each city and municipality.

Mayors and local leaders respond that they cannot decide this issue for everyone, and it is passed on to the city's districts and neighbourhoods.

Local leaders take on this burden and instead allow each household and family to decide for themselves.

Ultimately, the issue of reproductive rights is a matter for the people, not for politicians.
