Readers cry the loss of Will Rogers's house and remember their best lines

To the editor: The loss of Will Rogers's ranch house and the farm in Palisades fire is deeply sad (“In the historical home of Will Rogers, a painful question after fire: What comes next?” May 4). Rogers was a great American humorist and humanist whose popular style would be welcome today. Its joke of the era of depression: “Today there is so much money as always. Only fewer people have it,” is as relevant today as it was when he said it. I hope your memory can remain honored on property.

The eucalyptus trees that had planted, unfortunately, may have partly responsible for the loss of the ranch, since they are a very fuel species. Although they are historically significant, it seems logical to replace them with a native tree like Coast Live Oak, which is fire resistant and provides a great habitat for local wildlife.

To the editor: I am sorry to learn the house of the Rogers Rancho burned. It is an important part of American, and the personnel writer Hailey Branson-Potts did a good job by summarizing the legacy of this incredible man. A favorite Rogers Sticks with me: “I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat.”
