Pope Francis receives no support for his “lesser evil” stance on Harris and Trump

To the editor: In criticizing former President Trump’s stance on immigration, Pope Francis (and those who advise him) made the same mistake as many others. (“Pope slams Harris, Trump for taking ‘anti-life’ stances, urges Catholics to vote for ‘lesser evil,’” Sept. 13)

Republicans and Trump are pro-immigration. We welcome and want legal immigrants. The United States legally admits hundreds of thousands of immigrants each year. However, immigrants who are in this country illegally are often not screened.

Be a responsible citizen and a moral human being by seeking and considering facts, not propaganda or feelings.

To the editor: The Pope said that Vice President Kamala Harris, by supporting abortion rights, supports the murder of human beings.

No woman, teenager, girl or child has ever had an abortion “just because.” Her pregnancy was toxic for a variety of reasons: maternal death if the pregnancy goes to term, ectopic pregnancy, fetal death in utero, rape, incest, life-threatening domestic abuse, and more.

Many women have had to abort a much-wanted pregnancy with great pain and then go on to have healthy children with joy and happiness. It is no one's business but their own.

To the editor: Francis recently criticized Trump and Harris on abortion and immigration issues and called on Americans to vote for the least evil candidate.

It is admirable that you speak out against abortion as murder, but what happened to “who am I to judge”?

It is admirable that he supports immigrants and says that building a wall is “un-Christian,” but what happens if they decide to settle in the Vatican?

It is admirable that he said that bishops should stay out of politics, but what is he doing?
