to the editor: European leaders describe the conflict with Iran as “it is not our war” (“Ukraine's help against Iran shows who America's allies really are” March 18). A surprising attitude considering that if the United States had adopted a similar stance in the First and Second World Wars, Europe's position would have been much less secure and possibly a completely different picture. The American intervention was a choice that came at an enormous cost in lives, resources, and national resolve.
Even today, in Russia's war with Ukraine, the United States plays a central role in safeguarding Europe, providing all kinds of intelligence and support on the world stage.
Partnerships last when responsibilities are shared and not avoided.

to the editor: Guest contributor Mikhail Alexseev's op-ed offers us the reminder we need. If only the billions of dollarsThe military assets and support that our self-proclaimed “peace president” has provided to Israel in the fight against the Palestinians and the Iranians were offered to Ukraine. President Trump would be a new hero. Instead, he finds himself in a critical position, with only Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin as possible friends.
