OpenAI is adding support for the Anthrope model context protocol, an open source standard to connect artificial intelligence applications to data repositories. Developers can use it to ensure that their chatbots only provide responses based on relevant information.
The Operai CEO, Sam Altman, announced on Wednesday through X that the protocol can now be used in the agents' SDK, its set of tools to build agents to ia. The company's developer team added that it is working to add support for the application of ChatGPT desktop and the OpenAI API, and will announce more in the coming months.

How does MCP help AI systems to access data?
The scale of AI models can be a clumsy process, since they constantly need access to new third -party data sources, such as cloud servers, commercial platforms and inherited systems. Each source will speak their own technological language, require that developers create personalized integrations for each one.
MCP is effectively a universal language that can be used to develop bidirectional connections between a wide range of AI models and third -party data sources. “The result is a simpler and more reliable way to give access to the systems of AI to the data they need,” said Anthrope.
Developers who create AI agents with SDK agents can expose their data through the so -called “MCP servers” or build “MCP customers”, that is, applications that easily connect servers. This eliminates the need for innumerable personalized integrations and allows AI to access the information you need in different tools without losing the context.
The director of anthropic products, Mike Krieger, said he was “excited to see that MCP's love extended to Openai” in an X position. “The LLMs are more useful when they connect to the data it already has and the software it already uses.”
MCP was done open source in November and since then several artificial intelligence platforms have announced support, including Microsoft Cocilot, Apollo, Replica, Codeium and Sourcegraph.

But just after Operai's announcement, Redmond also launched a playwright MCP server in Github.
