Maxine Waters' short-sighted opposition to Inglewood people-mover project

To the editor: It is incredible that a California public leader would oppose a public transportation project to reduce car dependency. (“Inglewood needs public transportation, Rep. Waters,” Opinion, July 26)

When the Rolling Stones played SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on July 13, I worked diligently to find a public transportation option to get there. After the show, I wanted to avoid having to get in the car and drive around Los Angeles again.

Unfortunately, the downtown Inglewood K line station is about 1.5 miles from SoFi Stadium, making it impossible to use a transportation system that the public has spent billions of dollars to build.

Rep. Maxine Waters' (D-Los Angeles) opposition to federal funding for the K Line public transportation system linking Inglewood's major sites is a long-term mistake by a public official. Thank you to Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts for supporting this important transportation project.

To the editor: Let the professional sports teams that play at SoFi Stadium and the Intuit Dome pay for transportation to Inglewood.

They will lose revenue from their outrageous parking fees, but they will help the public not only for the 2028 Olympics, but for future attendees of events at SoFi and Intuit.

To the editor: I won't be going to Inglewood unless I'm passing through on the way to LAX.

There are events I'd like to attend at the Kia Forum, SoFi Stadium, and the Intuit Dome, but the traffic and parking situation is so terrible and so expensive that I don't mind missing another Rolling Stones concert or even the 2028 Summer Olympics events in Inglewood. I had hoped the subway system would one day have a direct link to these venues.

Waters is concerned that the “last mile” link won’t help residents. What about the money those of us in the rest of Southern California spend when we want to dine or shop before or after an event?

A closed system will eventually rot and die. Please don't kill Inglewood, Rep. Waters.
