Letters to the editor: Roosevelt's words about the “new frontiers of the mind” still apply today

To the editor: In James B. Milliken's opinion article, Vannevar Bush's report “Science, the Endless Frontier” is mentioned (“Science funding and immigration drive US innovation. They are at risk,” October 28). It is ironic that the president's uncle, John G. Trump, who was an engineering professor at MIT for many years, was hired at the college when Bush was dean of engineering there.

The report, which was transmitted to President Truman, was commissioned by the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration and includes comments from President Roosevelt: “We have before us new frontiers of the mind, and if we approach them with the same vision, boldness and drive with which we have fought this war, we can create fuller and more fruitful employment and a fuller and more fruitful life.”

With those words in mind, let's keep America great.
