to the editor: It's official: the State Department is suspending immigration visas for people from poorer countries because they might need food stamps or something (“The United States suspends the processing of immigrant visas from 75 countries for public assistance” January 14).
I suppose we can expect “Don the Builder” to begin chiseling Emma Lazarus’s inscription on the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses longing to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores.”

to the editor: As I read the list of countries from which the United States will no longer accept visas and remember the writings of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller from his high school days in Santa MonicaI conclude that American policy is to allow only white immigrants to enter the country. I wonder if this is how American citizens want it to happen.
