Letters to the editor: a recognition to those who work in the field and keep us fed

to the editor: In this season of harvest, feasting, and thankfulness, I want to thank writer Brittny Mejía for her powerful article about the legions of people who keep us well fed, day after day, year after year (“Hard lives in the fields of California: 'The American dream eats us alive'” November 30). I am reminded of the first line of Charles Bukowski’s poem “the meek have inherited.” It begins: “If I suffer with this typewriter / Do you think how I would feel among the lettuce pickers of Salinas?”
