Letters to the editor: a defense of the Tulsa Zoo when the last two elephants of the Los Angeles Zoo

To the editor: As a former resident and native of Los Angeles, Tulan, he was distressed when reading that the councilor of Los Angeles, Bob Blumenfield, believes that sending Billy and Tina to our Tulsa zoo is a bad idea (“The last two elephants to leave the zoo after years of controversy. But their new home is the object of debate,” “ April 22). I could come to Tulsa and see the zoo before giving such an opinion!

We love tulsanes to our zoo, especially elephants. This year, the zoo opened a new barn of 36,650 square feet and added approximately 2 acres of space dedicated in the patio. He also recently opened the old exhibition of elephants such as the experience of elephants. The changes include an extensive renewal of the Elephant Barn, the interpretive center and the outdoor spaces that originally opened in 1995. A new reserve, which adds another 10 acres, will be ready to explore this summer.

Billy and Tina will be welcome, and they will love to live in our Tulsa Zoo.
