To the editor: For the umpteenth time, the trial of criminal defendant Donald Trump in New York is not a hush money trial. It is a trial for electoral interference. (“Stormy Daniels describes her encounter with Trump in occasionally graphic testimony,” May 7)
Rich men pay their lovers all the time to keep them quiet. They do not do it to help themselves get elected to public office.

To the editor: Unfortunately, nothing that New York judge Juan Merchán has at his disposal to punish Trump for his immature and defiant behavior is going to remedy the situation. In fact, it will greatly benefit Trump.
Fines have no impact on him, and he may even want to go to jail for contempt of court.
If you do, you will reinvent yourself as a martyr or a political prisoner, and the minions who buy whatever this snake oil salesman sells them will eat you up.
