Is parking getting more expensive and it won't even help Angelenos?

to the editor: Thank you, City Council, for accepting more of my money (“Parking will soon cost more in Los Angeles. Here's what you need to know”. October 6)! I can't wait to see what you do next.

I'm sure the city is raising parking meter rates because it plans to provide my fellow Angelenos and I with better and more abundant services, and not because it's trying to climb out of the hole it created. Some may argue that $14.4 million isn't even a scratch away from a $1 billion deficit, but I say: How can you be against it when it's another regressive tax?

to the editor: By making parking pay on Sundays, the City Council has eliminated the only day of the week that gave drivers a break. It was a vestige of a quieter Los Angeles, something to appreciate. The council seems determined to pick the public's pockets and further traumatize people, all to raise a measly $14.4 million against a budget deficit that barely reaches $1 billion.
