To the editor: Although we look forward to the police investigation of this devastating loss before our canopy of urban trees, a question must be asked: where was the local hotel security, the security details of the commercial improvement district or the already occupied Los Angeles Police Department during this incident (“Vandals Tree Tree engines throughout the center of Los Angeles”, April 20)? How can a person (or people) be able to use a 120 decibels device to cut each tree in the middle of the center of Los Angeles?

To the editor: This is sick. Trees take years to create a canopy. I am not sure that the city can quickly replace these trees. A year ago, the prosperous jacaranda tree in the park in front of our building was destroyed by a night driver. The driver moved away; The tree was gone. We are still waiting for a replacement.
