To the editor: Congratulations to the Los Angeles Unified School District for their profits (“The Lausd test scores reached a new maximum, erasing Pandemic minimums with a second year of strong profits.” July 22). However, it is important to recognize that the single federal money was spent on expensive intensive labor programs (tutoring, summer school, classes during winter and spring holidays, intervention teachers and reading coaches) to address the damage of the COVID-19 pandemic. SUTIT. Alberto Carvalho, according to the article, insists that “the system in its place should continue to build on academic profits.” But with spent money, how can you? It would be appreciated more clarity from Lausd at that point.
