Gaza Protesters and the FBI's Ugly History of Infiltrating Peace Groups

To the editor: As ACLU attorney Kia Hamadanchy points out, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) called on the FBI to investigate protesters demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

I'm only 10 years younger than Pelosi, but I'm a generation away. By sheer luck in high school I was saved from being drafted into the Vietnam War. I remember someone in my class crying because his lottery number was 1.

The FBI's involvement in the infiltration and destabilization of anti-war groups during the Vietnam War is well documented.

During election times, Democrats always ignore the left while Republicans bask in their right wing. The evidence suggests that neither strategy is good.

Pelosi and President Biden's Gaza policies are divorced from current realities. Full support for the right-wing government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not work, nor will demonization of the Palestinians.

These approaches risk the support of everyone I know in the next crucial battle to defeat former President Trump and save our democracy.
