to the editor: The fight over the Kenneth Hahn Administration Hall reminds me of the failed battle to save the Ambassador Hotel (“Repairing this building in downtown Los Angeles would cost $700 million, the county said. Critics say that's a long way off.” December 11). It could have also been modernized, but the Los Angeles Unified School District decided to demolish it and build a pale replica of the original, losing another historic Los Angeles landmark.
What also scares me is, in the event of a major earthquake or fire, how will the hundreds of county employees and private citizens quickly and safely evacuate the Gas Company Tower? Think of the World Trade Center on 9/11.
The government is not always the wisest.
