To the editor: Let’s be clear that Vice President Kamala Harris is a member of the fastest-growing demographic in our country: mixed-race. She and others challenge the antiquated practice of creating artificial “types” out of what is actually continuous human variation. (“Trump Offended His Black Audience. Mistake or Part of the Plan?” Aug. 1 column)
Former President Trump’s comments at the National Association of Black Journalists conference also imply that minority people gain a questionable advantage as a result of their identity. Once again we see his ignorance on full display.
The reality is that initiatives like affirmative action only served to get you an interview. What happened next depended on your abilities.

To the editor: As grateful as we are now to know what Harris's race is, we really do care. We no longer have to wonder or worry.
In his response to those reporters' racist questions, Trump said he didn't really know who she was. Now that we all know, what's left to do? Can we move on?
Remember how good we all felt when Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) introduced us to the idea that she is part Native American? We cared. And here we are, moving forward!
In modern America, we're obsessed with race. Thank you, liberals, for making us care.
Racism is not synonymous with intolerance or prejudice. Racism is an obsession with race. And liberals own this disease.

To the editor: Trump's remarks at the National Association of Black Journalists convention were shocking, but entirely calculated. Trump understood that the crowd was already against him and made similar comments at a rally later that day.
He was riling up his “base,” he wanted to dominate the media cycle (where Harris received an endorsement from the United Auto Workers, miss that?), and now we’re not talking about policy (if Republicans have any).
Still, the disparaging comments are likely to win Harris more votes.

To the editor: Trump has a long list of accolades for things he has done better and knows more about than anyone in the history of the world.
One more item I'd like to see added to that ever-growing list is for him to lose the 2024 presidential election by the largest margin in the history of the universe.
