To the editor: Threatening people with jail does not seem to work for any crime, so I am curious to know why the mayor of San José, Matt Mahan, believes that the homeless people crisis will be different (“the mayor of San José proposes to imprison the homeless people who repeatedly reject refuge”, March 6). In addition, according to the study of the Benioff Home and Housing initiative cited in a recent article in Times, most of those unleashed are not deauded due to drug use.
Clearly, provisional housing is a good stop with permanent homes and care as the goal, but we should ask ourselves why people fall to be discouraged. It seems that our system doesn't care about people when they really need help. We should stop leaving capitalist decision making to ruin people. There is no reason for us not to make the house correct instead of a privilege.

To the editor: Although the reasons for the lack of housing vary, the first five paragraphs of their article illustrate a common reason: some people without taking into account traditional houses in favor of free real estate where they can build without permits, inspections, taxes or recreational vehicles without camping rates and other costs.
