June 19 marks World Walking Day. The goal is to urge people to relax and appreciate life instead of rushing through it. The day counteracts the emphasis on running by encouraging people to walk, wander and wander.
We often find ourselves rushing even the most basic activities, such as daily walks, due to our fast-paced lifestyles and perpetually hectic schedules, which make time seem to fly by. World Walking Day deviates from this trend by urging people around the world to take a leisurely walk and slow down.
This day is meant to serve as a reminder for everyone to take a break from their hectic schedule, adopt a slower pace, and engage fully in the current moment.
The idea of strolling is based on the art of taking a casual walk.

History of World Walk Day
WT Rabe came up with the idea for World Walking Day in 1979 while working at the Grand Hotel on Michigan's Mackinac Island. Rabe established the idea of this day to encourage people to slow down and take things easy as a reaction to the growing popularity of the running trend in the United States around the 1970s.
Recognizing the value of adopting a slower pace in the face of the dominant fast-paced lifestyle, Rabe instituted walking rules for the celebration of this day. He urged people to walk rather than rush to relax and savor the moment. Rabe suggests that walking can involve taking long walks with a dog and dressing comfortably to facilitate a more relaxed and enjoyable experience.
