Let’s take a look at their history, importance, and some interesting facts.

History of World Skyscraper Day

World Skyscraper Day has its roots in the history of modern skyscrapers. The date was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Louis H. Sullivan, an American architect also known as the Father of Skyscrapers. His work includes impressive designs and layouts. He designed some of the most iconic structures in the United States, such as the Wainwright Building, the Union Trust Building, and the Prudential Building.

Significance: Today, structures at least 150 meters or 465 feet tall are called skyscrapers, and they symbolize wealth and prestige. The day has significant significance, especially in the US, as it commemorates the engineering marvels that the world witnesses today. Previously, the United States enjoyed a global monopoly on skyscrapers, as it accounted for almost all of the tallest structures.
