Flavor Flav is another celebrity who traveled to the Paris 2024 Olympics, but not just to watch the impressive matches.
Earlier this month, a press release from USA Water Polo revealed that it had signed a five-year sponsorship deal with the rapper, making him the “official cheerleader” for both the men’s and women’s national teams.
As part of its sponsorship, Flavor Flav is not only making financial contributions to the 2024 Women’s Olympic Water Polo Team, but is also “demonstrating its commitment to supporting these elite athletes in their quest for Olympic gold in Paris.”
The press release noted that he will make “multiple appearances” at USA Water Polo events each year and engage in “extensive social media collaboration” with the team.
Flavor Flav, co-founder of hip-hop group Public Enemy, has also shared how his family has influenced his sponsorship.
“Supporting the USA Water Polo teams is an honor,” he said in the press release. “As a father of a young girl and champion of all sports, I am excited to bring my energy and voice to this incredible sport. Niche sports often don’t get the attention they deserve, but they are filled with incredible talent and heart. Together, we are going to make some serious waves!”
The news of her sponsorship didn’t necessarily come as a surprise, as she had been vocal about her support for the U.S. women’s water polo team back in May. As team captain Maggie Steffens paid tribute to her teammates and expressed her love for their grueling sport in an Instagram tribute, she also highlighted the constant financial struggle most Olympic athletes face. Flavor Flav then took to the comments of her post, where she shared her plans to work with the women’s sports team.
“AYYY YOOO,,, as a father of a little girl and a fan of all things women’s sports, I will personally sponsor you my girl for whatever you need. And I will sponsor the entire team,” he wrote. “My manager is in contact with your agent and I will use all my relationships and resources to help you out even further. That’s a promise from FLAVOR FLAV.”
As the Paris Olympics are in full swing, the U.S. women's water polo team participated in its first event on July 27. During the event, which marked the quest for its fourth gold medal, the U.S. team won a match against Greece, with a score of 15 to 6.
As expected, Flavor Flav was there in the stands, cheering on the U.S. water polo team. While watching the game, he also had the chance to share some hugs and laughs with U.S. First Lady Jill Biden and her family, as shown in a video posted on his Instagram.
“TASTE TASTE::: I love all the support women’s water polo is getting… This guy is so thankful the First Lady came to the first game,” she wrote in the caption. “THANK YOU @flotus Dr. Jill Biden for all the support she has given you and your family.”
While touring the Team USA House at the Olympic Games on July 25, she expressed how happy she was to be at the event.
“This is a great experience for me right now, you know, because the only time I’ve ever watched the Olympics was on television,” she told The Associated Press. You know what I’m saying? But I always wanted to see what it felt like to be there. So now I got the chance to be here. It’s the best.
