Incorporating regular exercise into your routine leads to a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

A recent study published in The Lancet points to a worrying trend: half of adults in India lead a sedentary lifestyle. This underlines the importance of consistent physical activity for physical and mental health. Regular exercise mitigates the risk of chronic diseases and can lead to significant health improvements, even with moderate exercise for 30 minutes on most days.

Dr Mukesh Budhwani, Consultant Physician, Apollo Clinic, Viman Nagar, says, “Engaging in regular physical activity is essential for maintaining good health and can help prevent chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer and heart disease. The benefits of exercise are immediate and long-term, improving overall quality of life. By exercising, you strengthen your heart and boost circulation, which increases oxygen levels and reduces the risk of heart diseases such as high cholesterol and heart attacks. It can also reduce blood pressure and triglyceride levels.”

Regular exercise offers numerous benefits for both physical and mental health. On a physical level, it helps maintain a healthy weight, improves cardiovascular health, and strengthens muscles and bones. Exercise also strengthens the immune system, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. On a mental level, it improves mood by releasing endorphins, reduces stress and anxiety, and improves sleep quality. In addition, regular physical activity increases energy levels and promotes better brain function, improving memory and cognitive skills.

Overall, incorporating regular exercise into your routine leads to a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
