Cody and Deborah Fisher, a married couple of former educators, began a small local business, Austin Cotillion, around 2016. “As the pandemia persisted, we saw more and more children who fought with solitude, depression and social anxiety,” said Fisher. The couple wanted to give the children in their community the opportunity to learn social skills and generate trust.
Fishermen's classes are not traditional. They incorporate magic or games to keep the minds to drift. Nor do strict gender codes. “Our cotillion is for everyone,” said Fisher. “We do not verify the birth certificates.”
