Saudi Arabia's Supreme Court has asked Muslims in the Kingdom to view the crescent moon of Ramadan or Ramzan on the night of March 10. If the moon is seen, Ramadan will begin on March 11.
Muslims in all corners of the world expect to see the crescent moon of the ninth month of the Hijri calendar. The sighting of the moon on the evening of the 29th day of the month of Shaban will mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan. It is believed that during the month of Ramadan, the Prophet Muhammad received the first verses of the holy book of the Quran.
During this month, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. Maintaining fast during Ramzan is considered one of the five pillars of Islam. The fact that Muslims observe 29 or 30 fasts is based on the sighting of the moon, which is crucial in deciding the beginning and end of the month. After the end of the month of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
Today, Sunday night, Muslims in Saudi Arabia will look for the crescent moon to observe the beginning of Ramadan. If the crescent moon is seen, Ramadan will begin tomorrow, Monday, March 11. If the crescent moon is not seen tonight, Ramadan will begin the next day, Tuesday, March 12.
