History of Friendship Day

Friendship Day was introduced in 1930 as a marketing strategy by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards. However, it quickly became more popular in the US and other parts of the world. The first official World Friendship Day was proposed in Paraguay in 1958, and the UN appointed Winnie the Pooh as the World Ambassador of Friendship in 1998. Eventually, the United Nations officially declared July 30 as International Friendship Day, but it is celebrated on the first Sunday of August in India.

Meaning of Friendship Day

According to the United Nations, problems such as poverty and human rights violations persist and threaten development, security, social cohesion and interpersonal peace in the global community. To ensure that we eliminate all elements that endanger a peaceful future together, we must strive to build strong bonds of trust among ourselves by commemorating the International Day of Friendship.

We often take the bond we have with our friends for granted. That's why a day like Friendship Day serves as a reminder to express our gratitude to our friends for their friendship and for everything they've done for us.
