Tummy time involves putting your baby to sleep on his or her stomach.
Tummy time sessions can be started after 2 or 3 days after the birth of a child.
The birth of a baby at home is not only a moment of joy for the mother, but for the entire family. Beyond everything else, caring for a newborn is important. As the child grows, her activity begins to increase. It is necessary to take care of them during these growth phases. Do you know what tummy time is? It means putting babies on their stomachs. After a few months of birth, the child lies face down while he moves his hands and feet. These activities are very important for your muscle development and strengthening. If the child is not resting on his tummy, then it is necessary to do this after a short interval of time. Now the question arises: why is tummy time important? How long should it be done? At what age can you start and what are its benefits? Dr Kailash Soni, Pediatrician at Government Medical College, spoke to News18 about this and mentioned all the details about tummy time.
He highlighted the importance of tummy time for newborns and highlighted its role in strengthening muscles and promoting overall development.
What is tummy time?
According to her, tummy time involves putting the baby to sleep on his or her stomach while awake and under supervision. By doing this, the overall development of children takes place and their brain develops properly. At the same time, if the child tries to do this position on his own, then the body movement from it is also performed correctly.
What are the benefits of spending tummy time?
Dr. Soni explained that spending time on his tummy helps in proper development of the baby's brain and body movement. Strengthens the muscles of the neck, shoulders and arms; the child's body becomes more active when sitting and crawling; and also reduces the risk of flat head syndrome.
How long should children stay on their stomach?
Parents are recommended to begin tummy time sessions a few days after birth, starting with 3 to 5 minutes and gradually increasing to 15 to 30 minutes per day at the age of 2 months. It is important to avoid tummy time after breastfeeding to avoid discomfort.
Dr. Soni encouraged families to incorporate tummy time into their daily routine for the healthy growth of their children.
