What is Baker's cyst? Know Its Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Baker's cyst is mainly caused by arthritis or an old injury.

A baker's cyst is a soft, fluid-filled lump that occurs on the back of the knee.

Nowadays, leading a bad lifestyle is causing many problems in our body. These problems can be difficulty walking, knee pain, and stiffness, but we often think this is normal AND, in some cases, it could just be normal pain. But another reason may be a baker's cyst, which causes pain and swelling in the knee and difficulty sitting and walking. People over the age of 40 have a higher chance of developing baker's cysts.

Dr CP Pal, orthopedic surgeon and professor at Government Medical College, explained that a baker's cyst is a soft, fluid-filled lump that occurs at the back of the knee. When this cyst appears, people feel a lot of pain and swelling around the lump, making it difficult to bend the knee. Due to this, stiffness and pain occurs in the knee.

Cause of baker's cyst

Baker's cyst is mainly caused by arthritis or any previous injury. Due to the old injury, the muscle around the knee is damaged and fluid begins to leak out. One more reason may be due to blood clot at the back of the knee. However, this problem can be treated by operations or medications, but it is important to recognize it at the right time and it will help you overcome this problem.

Treatment

Dr. CP Pal suggested that sometimes this cyst treats itself, but if the problems continue, then treatment is needed to cure it. In this case, doctors remove the cyst by inserting an injection into the lump. The lumps come out, sometimes they dry out and heal.

Physical therapy

The doctor will suggest that you do some exercise and receive some therapy; Through exercise, the lump will be relieved and will also relieve stiffness and pain. Exercising will make your knee flexible. Apart from this, putting ice on the lump will also help eliminate the pain.
