There is a freshness in the air and a buzz of celebration everywhere as the wedding season unfolds across India. From back-to-back shows to endless travel and late-night revelry, this time of year can be as taxing on your skin as it is delightful for your spirit. Brides-to-be and guests alike want to look their best, so skin care, nutrition, and rest are more essential than ever.
“Amidst the chaos of makeup, mehndi and masti, your skin deserves a little extra love and a safety net of antioxidants,” says Dr. Asok, aesthetic doctor and founder of SkynD'or Clinic.
Antioxidants: the skin's nuptial defense
The secret to shining during the holidays lies in balance, enjoying the good times while making conscious decisions. According to Dr. Asok, antioxidant-rich foods act as “nature's invisible shield against oxidative stress.”
“Antioxidants are your skin's frontline warriors,” she explains. “They neutralize unstable molecules caused by pollution, ultraviolet rays and poor eating habits, factors that break down collagen and elastin, causing sagging, dullness and uneven tone.”
Among them, Vitamin E stands out for its double action: fighting free radicals while deeply nourishing and hydrating the skin from the inside.
Vitamin E: the secret weapon
“Vitamin E is not just one compound, it's actually a family,” notes Dr. Asok. “It is made up of tocopherols and tocotrienols. Tocopherols are the familiar forms we see in beauty creams, while tocotrienols are their lesser-known but much more powerful siblings.”
Studies show that tocotrienols can be up to sixty times more powerful than tocopherols at fighting free radicals. “They calm inflammation, protect against UV damage and slow premature aging,” he adds. “That makes them a real skin savior, especially during high-stress wedding season, when skin needs extra defense.”
Palm oil: an overlooked skin ally
“One of the richest natural sources of tocotrienols is palm oil,” says Dr. Asok. Beyond its culinary use, this tropical oil has earned a place in skin care thanks to its fatty acid composition and antioxidant properties.
“With oleic and linoleic acids, palm oil locks in moisture and relieves dryness,” she explains. “Its carotenoids calm irritation and may even offer a mild level of UV protection. That's why you'll find it increasingly used in moisturizers, serums, and even wellness recipes that combine flavor with skin care benefits.”
Tips for glowing skin at a wedding
According to Dr. Asok, hydration and nutrition are the foundation of glowing skin. “Drink plenty of water, coconut water and herbal teas, they help eliminate toxins and maintain elasticity,” he advises.
It also highlights the role of healthy fats. “Good fats are your skin's best friends. Include foods like avocados, nuts, and oils with balanced fatty acid profiles, like palm oil,” she says. “They help repair the skin barrier, keeping it soft and resistant.”
Traditional ingredients also have a place. “A blend of turmeric and black pepper is a classic Indian anti-inflammatory that promotes glowing skin,” says Dr. Asok. “And don't underestimate your gut, fermented foods like yogurt nourish gut health, which directly affects your complexion.”
She recommends pairing sweets with antioxidant-rich fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds to help counteract oxidative stress. “Balance is everything,” he remembers. “Celebrate, but let your body and skin recover through hydration, rest and mindful eating.”
“Wedding season is about joy, not guilt,” says Dr. Asok. “When you combine indulgence with conscious skin care and nutrition, especially taking advantage of vitamin E, your skin remains protected and luminous.”
Ultimately, glowing skin isn't about restrictions, it's about nutrition. Celebrate fully, take care of yourself wisely, and let your skin shine as bright as the season itself.
