The King's health “continues to be very positive,” royal sources have said, as the second anniversary of his accession to the throne is commemorated.
Charles' second year as sovereign has been fraught with health concerns, as he has been diagnosed with cancer and has to deal with ongoing treatment in addition to fulfilling his royal duties.
The 75-year-old king will attend a church service on Sunday to mark the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death and is preparing for his first major overseas trip to Australia and Samoa in the autumn.
“Health must remain the number one priority, even though it remains on a very positive trajectory,” the royal source said.
This comes as her daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales, who was also diagnosed with cancer this year, hopes to return to public life in the coming months.
Kate, 42, has made two official public appearances since her diagnosis: attending Trooping the Colour in June and presenting the men's Wimbledon trophy in July.
According to The Times, she is understood to be hoping to join the royal family at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday and host their carol concert.
Kate hopes to return in the fall
The Princess of Wales is hoping to join the royal family at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday and perform her Christmas carol concert, according to reports.
Kate, who has undergone months of chemotherapy treatment for cancer, will “potentially” join the King on November 10 at the national service in Whitehall to honour those who died in the conflict, The Sunday Times said.
Planning is also said to be underway for her annual televised carol service Together At Christmas at Westminster Abbey in December, if she continues to have “more 'good mornings'”, the paper revealed.
Kate, 42, has made two official public appearances since her diagnosis: attending Trooping the Colour in June and presenting the men's Wimbledon trophy in July.
No date has been set for her return to public life, but the princess is understood to be holding more regular meetings while working from home, having enjoyed the summer with the Prince of Wales and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

How will the anniversary of the Queen's death be commemorated?
Sunday marks the second anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Charles is expected to attend church and spend time in private prayer and reflection on the anniversary, which falls during his summer holiday at his Aberdeenshire estate in the Scottish Highlands.
The source: “There will be personal thoughts, prayers and reflections.
“I'm sure it will be a very emotional day for everyone. How could it not be, especially considering the difficult year the whole family has been through?”
Cannon salutes are usually fired on Accession Day, but as this year's anniversary falls on a Sunday, when salutes are not traditionally fired, the military salute by the Royal Horse Artillery in Hyde Park and the Honourable Artillery Company at the Tower of London has been moved to Monday.
Both participating regiments were responsible for firing the Death Gun salutes to commemorate the death of Queen Elizabeth II two years ago, and almost all participating soldiers and horses played a part in the Queen's state funeral and proclamation of the King.

Sir Ian McKellen says he is 'definitely on Prince Harry's side'
Sir Ian McKellen has affirmed his support for Prince Harry as the duke's estrangement from his brother and father continues.
The veteran British actor, 85, told The Times he believed Harry was not “smart enough” to deal with royal-life turmoil.
Pointing to a copy of Harry's hard-hitting memoir Spare at his east London home, Sir Ian reportedly said: “I'm definitely on Harry's side.”
She added: “Imagine being born into the royal family. I’ve been in public life a bit, but these people are in prison. They can’t do anything normal. Can you imagine having to be nice to everyone you talk to?”
“I take my hat off to anyone who manages to keep their sanity in that world,” he said.
“Like the [late] The Duke of Edinburgh managed it, though even he was deeply eccentric and I suspect deeply unhappy. So it is with the current king. He survives in some ways, but is clearly damaged. As for Harry, he is probably not clever enough or has the right friends to help himself.
“Keep in mind that he chose all the most beautiful women in the world. I hope he chose the right one.”
