Thanks to revolutionary changes such as digital technology, 3D printing, CAD CAM and advances in materials science, dentists can now satisfy the population's growing desire to achieve the smile of their dreams. Cosmetic dentistry has grown exponentially over the last decade.

The smile makeover, also known as smile design, is one of the most requested treatments by both the public and celebrities. Smile makeover involves correcting a person's smile by altering the color, shape and alignment of the teeth in the aesthetic area. Several Bollywood celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon of these cosmetic dentistry procedures to be on top of their beauty game. Beauty is the currency on which movie stars thrive. The following cosmetic dental trends are popular in Bollywood.

1. Veneers Dental veneers are thin, custom-made tooth-colored shells that fit over existing front teeth to hide stains, cracks, chips, and restore contour. They look absolutely real and can be completed in just two non-invasive sessions. Bollywood king Shahrukh Khan had yellowish stained teeth due to smoking and other reasons. His smile is well aligned and the spots look like they have been masked with veneers in the Dunki movies. Ranbir Kapoor has admitted to having veneers. The other celebrities who appear to have had veneers are Kiara Advani and Jacqueline Fernandes.
2. Contour of teeth and crownsComplex changes that cannot be handled with thin veneers require a more robust 360-degree structure called crowns, which are made with glass-like ceramic and look natural. They are placed over existing natural teeth and can also function as a filling for missing teeth. Nusrat Bharucha is reported to have undergone these procedures.
3. BondingClosing spaces between teeth or chipped and cracked teeth can be controlled by rebuilding the affected part with an absolutely matching tooth-like material called composite bonding. Actress Mouni Roy has her holes closed with this technique.
4. Teeth whiteningYellowed or stained teeth can be whitened, the effects of which last a year and need to be repeated. Actor Ajay Devgn gets his teeth whitened. This procedure is also known as teeth whitening. Cosmetic gum contouring is a procedure through which excess gums can be reshaped and made symmetrical. Priyanka Chopra's perfectly aligned gums are possibly the result of laser gum contouring.

   Laser gum depigmentation helps remove dark colored gums in one go. Gums may be dark in color due to natural causes or nicotine abuse. Actress Shruti Hassan has opened up about cosmetic dentistry.

   Invisible braces are the latest non-invasive method of aligning teeth without the need to shave the tooth structure. A series of clear shells are made and custom-fitted that gradually move the teeth into the desired position. Anoushka Sharma is the brand ambassador of the said product.
