The Princess of Wales confirmed she has completed chemotherapy treatment and said she has entered “this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation for life.”
“The last nine months have been incredibly difficult for us as a family,” she said in a personal message, while expressing hopes for further public engagements.
Here's the timeline of events leading up to Kate's latest health update.
Tuesday, January 16th
Kate is secretly admitted to the London Clinic and undergoes abdominal surgery.
She attends the clinic instead of King Edward VII's Hospital, which is usually the royal family's go-to facility for medical matters.
Wednesday, January 17th
2pm – Kensington Palace announces the princess's operation and says she will remain in the private hospital for 10 to 14 days.
He is not expected to return to duty until after Easter and will take up to three months to recover.
The Prince of Wales is temporarily stepping down from official duties to care for his wife and children.
The exact nature of Kate's condition is being kept private, but it is not cancerous and Kensington Palace says the planned procedure was successful.
A source later said the princess was “doing well.”
Thursday, January 18th
The Prince of Wales spends time at his wife's bedside, leaving via the back entrance during the private and discreet visit.
William, looking serious, was seen leaving the London Clinic at around 12.35pm
Tuesday, January 23
Kate's hospital stay exceeds the one-week limit.
Friday, January 26th
The King visits the Princess of Wales after she is admitted to the London Clinic for treatment for an enlarged prostate.
Monday, January 29
Kate leaves the clinic to continue her recovery at home.
Monday, February 5th
Kensington Palace confirms the Prince of Wales will return to official duties this week, beginning with an investiture.
Buckingham Palace announces that the King has a form of cancer, but not prostate cancer, and has begun treatment as an outpatient.
He will not perform public-facing duties but will handle state affairs and official documents behind the scenes, the palace says.
Wednesday, February 7th
William thanks the public for their “kind messages of support” after the King announced his cancer diagnosis, while acknowledging those who wished Kate well as she recovered from planned abdominal surgery.
Monday, March 4th
The princess is photographed for the first time since undergoing abdominal surgery.
Kate appears in paparazzi photographs near Windsor Castle wearing dark sunglasses in the passenger seat of a car driven by her mother, Carole Middleton.
Tuesday, March 5th
The Army has removed a claim on its website that the princess was reviewing Trooping the Colour in June.
Tickets were already on sale on the official website for the June 8 military event, advertising an appearance by Kate.
Sunday, March 10th
There are concerns that the first photograph of the princess released after her abdominal surgery may have been doctored before being posted on social media by Kensington Palace.
The photo of Kate and her children, which the palace said was taken by William in Windsor earlier in the week, was to celebrate Mother's Day.
In the post, Kate said: “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the past two months.
“I wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day. C.”
The image shows Kate sitting in a chair with her arms around Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who are on either side of her, with Prince George standing behind, as all four smile at the camera.
The photograph, shared with the media, is removed by international photo agencies later that day due to concerns that the image had been manipulated.
Monday, March 11
Kate publicly takes blame for the doctored photo and issues a personal apology for the “mix-up.”
Kate says: “Like many amateur photographers, I experiment with editing from time to time.
“I wanted to apologize for any confusion that may have been caused by the family photo we shared yesterday.
“I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”

Tuesday, March 19
An investigation has been launched at The London Clinic over allegations that staff tried to access the princess's private medical records.
At least one staff member allegedly tried to access Kate's notes while she was a patient at the hospital in January.
The UK's data protection and privacy watchdog says it has received a report of a breach.
Friday, March 22
Kate announces she will undergo chemotherapy for cancer in an emotional video message.
She describes the “huge shock” after tests identified cancer following her abdominal surgery and the “incredibly tough couple of months” her family has experienced.
“It has taken us a while to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be fine,” she added.
Thursday, April 18
William, who had spent the previous three and a half weeks with Kate and their children during the Easter holidays, is returning to public work.

William gives a positive update on his wife's treatment during a visit to the Isles of Scilly, saying “she's doing well.”
Wednesday, June 5th
The prince speaks to a veteran at a D-Day commemoration event in Portsmouth and appears to suggest Kate is on the mend, adding: “She would love to be here today.”
Saturday June 8th
The Princess of Wales writes a letter to the Irish Guards to apologise for not being able to take the salute and wishes them luck for The Colonel's Review in London.
Friday, June 14th
Kate issues a written message saying she is “making good progress” and has “good days and bad days,” adding: “I’m not out of the woods yet.”
She confirms that she will attend Trooping the Colour and “hopes to take part in some public events over the summer” while continuing treatment “for a few more months”.
A new photograph of the royals, taken earlier this week in the grounds of Windsor Castle, shows Kate standing in a peaceful setting against a weeping willow near a body of water.

The princess looks relaxed during her first day in the spotlight after her cancer diagnosis at the traditional Trooping ceremony.
She takes part in the carriage procession and joins the royal family, including George, Charlotte and Louis, on the balcony of the Palace.
