Most netizens did not believe the couple would last, arguing that signs from their past would lead to the end of their path together, specifically three interactions they shared.

“Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were getting divorced the day this video came out lol,” proclaimed one user of X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a video of Affleck guiding Lopez into the passenger seat of his car.

Another agreed: “I think we all knew that then.”

“This is the day I knew Ben wasn’t happy with Jennifer Lopez,” one X user captioned a video of the two celebrities at the famed awards ceremony. She pulled out a folder full of love letters, emails, and messages between her and Affleck that he had put together for Lopez as a gift for their first Christmas together in 2021.

While Lopez seemed to think showing the folder to her team was a gesture of gratitude for Affleck's romantic gesture, she also seemed to think it was a violation of privacy.

Speaking to producers on camera, Affleck admitted: “The book I had given her was there. She said, 'I've been reading it to people. It's kind of an inspiration and I've been showing them the book.'”

“I thought you showed all the musicians all those letters… and they were like, ‘Yeah, we call you Pen Affleck. ’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God,’” he continued. “I really found the beauty and the poetry and the irony in the fact that it’s the greatest love story ever told. If you’re making a record about it, it’s like you’re telling it.”

Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 20, citing April 26 as the official day of her separation from Affleck. The former couple tied the knot in July 2022, 19 years after calling off their engagement.
