The third Sawan Somwar is the third Monday of the Hindu month of Sawan, known for its importance in the worship of Lord Shiva. Sawan, the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar, is dedicated to religious observances, particularly Mondays, and involves fasting and rituals. This year, the third Monday of Sawan falls on August 5, and the tithi of Shukla Pratipada lasts till 6:30 pm, after which the Dwitiya Tithi will begin.

Puri-based astrologer Dr Ganesh Mishra of Central Sanskrit University offers a detailed guide on auspicious timings for various rituals. For the third Monday of Sawan, Vyatipat Yoga will be held from 10:08 am on August 4 to 10:38 am on August 5. Ashlesha Nakshatra will begin at 1:26 pm on August 4 and end at 3:21 pm on August 5. Brahma Muhurta, considered ideal for performing rituals, is from 4:20 am to 5:03 am, while Abhijit Muhurta is from 12:00 pm to 12:54 pm.
The timing of Amrit Muhurta, an exceptionally auspicious time for worship, will be from 5:45 to 7:25 a.m. The timing of Char-Samanya, considered auspicious for performing meaningful activities, will be from 2:07 p.m. to 3:48 p.m. The timing of Labh-Unnati will be from 3:48 p.m. to 5:28 p.m., and the timing of Amrit-best will be from 5:28 p.m. to 7:09 p.m.
Jalabhishek can be performed during Brahma Muhurta, though it can be performed at other times as well. Rudrabhishek is also very auspicious during Brahma Muhurta. For Kalsarp Dosh pujas, auspicious times are early in the morning or during specific muhurtas, with the most auspicious periods being 4:30 to 6:00 am, 7:00 am to 10:00 am and around 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.
