'The scapegoat' | Anatomy of a scene
Director David Leitch narrates a sequence from his film starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.

“Hello, I'm David Leitch. And I'm the director of 'The Fall Guy.' So I'm super excited. This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. It's like our setup. “You see Ryan and Emily in a flashback where they are flirting.” “Oh, I was going to have a spicy margarita after work. And I was wondering if you drink spicy margaritas? [LAUGHS] “Well, to keep it professional, I can only have one spicy margarita because if I have two, I start making bad decisions.” “This whole scene is filmed as if it were one. They are not cuts. So it was really a challenge for what's coming next. Ryan has to play this charming, charismatic guy, knowing that we're actually going to hook him up for a 120-foot descent. A descender is a platform that we drop someone off of a building or whatever. And the bottom mechanism actually slows it down for the last 10 feet. That's the team of specialists right there. Keir Beck is hooking him up right now with the other Australian tackle team. And they are preparing to push Ryan to the limit.” “After this, you and I could be on the beach somewhere in swimsuits, drinking spicy margaritas.” “As a specialist, this is not unusual. You would be having a conversation up until the moment you do the trick, finding time to focus while they hang up on you. It's quite surprising that he maintains his composure. We actually did this practically. All this is real. And this is in a building in Sydney. It took us about four months to obtain permits to build the structure we needed and eliminate all engineering and safety requirements. And this could be the second take. But Ryan was a good sport. I know at some point he knew his name was 'The Fall Guy' and he knew he was going to have to do something like this. So here goes.” “Action! Action! Action! Action!” [WHIRRING]
