Do you have excellent communication skills and are fluent in Welsh? You may have the chance to land a new job at Kensington Palace.

Prince William and Princess Kate are looking to hire a new private assistant to join their team.

As Prince and Princess of Wales, until they become King and Queen, they are looking for a new secretary to help them improve relations with the Welsh nation.

According to the job advert, her new deputy private secretary will organise the couple's engagements in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and help maximise their impact “across all constituent parts of the UK”.

We are looking for candidates who speak Welsh and bring a strong understanding of Welsh communities, affairs, government and business.

Candidates applying for the role will plan the couple's day-to-day commitments and play a key role in the on-the-ground team in carrying out these commitments.

Reporting directly to the couple's private secretary, they will work alongside the communications secretaries, the visits and events team and the person in charge of the palace's agenda.

In their 37.5-hour workweek, they will also help draft speeches for the royal family, communicate on their behalf with charities and patronages, and provide written advice to the couple.

According to the job advert, whilst it is preferable for the candidate to work at Kensington Palace, there is the option of working part-time in Wales. The candidate will be expected to travel both within the UK and abroad.

However, the detailed job specification is missing one key part: salary.

In 2022, the couple received backlash after Kensington Palace posted a job advert for a personal assistant to Kate's private secretary for just £27,000.

The couple are looking to continue King Charles' legacy of strengthening relationships as he did when he was the longest-serving Prince of Wales in history.

The monarch fostered a connection with the nation from the moment he assumed the title when, in his 1969 investiture speech, he argued for Wales to retain its own national identity.

When William, who lived in Anglesey for three years with Kate during an RAF posting, decided not to undergo the traditional investiture ceremony when he assumed the title.

The job search is carried out by the recruitment company Odgers Berndtson.
