The Ashhlyn Harris soccer star is cleaning on the unhealthy addiction he had while attending the University of North Carolina.
In the most recent episode of the Question everything with Danielle Robay Podcast, the former 39 -year -old national team goalkeeper, said he was “using” the combined medication he often used to treat narcolepsia disorder and hyperactivity care deficit (ADHD).
“I was taking it all the time. I would go without sleep. It was wild,” he said. “I felt that I was going to give an attack to the heart. I was crushing it. I was snorting it. It was very problematic.”
According WebmdAdderall is classified as a stimulant and combines amphetamine and dextroanfetamine to “increase levels of natural brain chemicals, such as norepinephrine and dopamine.”
After a while, Harris noticed that the drug began to have additional side effects, which made it even more addictive.
“Then I thought, 'Oh makes me skinny. I brakes my appetite,” he recalled. “It was just a toxic and toxic moment for me because it was the first time I began to try my character because I began to injure.”
“He got very, very dark, and I had to make some serious adjustments,” said Harris.
It was her university coach, Anson Dorrance, who finally helped her kick her habit.
“Anson would make me read books,” he recalled. “I started reading this book called [Man’s Search] by meaningAnd it's about suffering and reformulating it, and changed my life. “
After an illustrious career that practiced professional football from the moment he graduated from the university in 2009, Harris decided to leave the sport behind and retire in 2022.
At that time, she was still married to her now ex -wife, Ali Krieger, whom she met while playing in the national women's team in 2010.

Reflecting on the end of her four -year marriage, during which she and Krieger adopted her daughter Sloane (now four years old) and her son Ocean (two years old), Harris said: “I think it reaches a point where you are at the end of the rope.
“And you put it around your neck or let it fall. That's where it was,” he continued. “He was miserable. I wanted more for me and I wanted more for my children about what his expectation of love is.
“How am I going to try to teach my four -year -old daughter about being, as, strong and independent and love her body and her internal being and her inner value and all these things when I hated myself?”
